Charles Bergamo is the parent of a child with special needs; his goal and passions are to pass that knowledge along to similarly situated individuals to help those families provide for and care for the person they love—his motivation comes from his daughter's disability caused by SYNGAP1.

He is actively involved in Planning for Individuals with special needs. He serves on the Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities and as Chairperson to the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services West Regional Advisory Council. These are advisory positions and voluntary. In addition, he's spoken to national groups on the issues surrounding Planning for Individuals with Special Needs.
